MED-Star is a strategic project funded under the Italy-France Maritime Cross-border Cooperation Programme INTERREG 2014-2020, and it aims at the prevention, forecasting and joint management of fire risks. The project involves public bodies and research institutions of different territories: Sardinia region; Corsica region; Liguria region; provinces of the Tuscany’s coast (Massa-Carrara, Lucca, Pisa, Livorno, Grosseto); French departments of Alpes-Maritimes and Var, located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur Region (PACA).
The general objective of the project is to contribute to improve the capacity of public institutions to prevent and manage the increasing risk of fire, including through appropriate actions of adaptation to climate change, in areas of high anthropogenic presence and in areas of significant naturalistic interest. For this objective MED-Star is connected with four simple projects financed by the Italy-France Marittimo programme, which aim to carry out pilot actions for the forecasting and management of fire risk in forested areas (MED- Forests) and in urban-rural interface areas (Inter-MED), to experiment and test interventions aimed at protecting and raising awareness of the population (MED-PSS), and to carry out pilot interventions for active fighting, especially in a cross-border context (MED-COOPFIRE).
MED-Star intends to achieve the following results:
This platform stems from the need to provide support for cross-border communication of the strategic project and the simple projects connected to it, promoting the achievement of the project objectives through awareness-raising and training actions to multiple targets.
The platform will convey multimedia materials related to the project themes and will allow the use of these materials and the training, also in e-learning mode, of the target groups involved: resident and non-resident population, public institutions and local authorities involved in the management of civil protection interventions, operators in the fire prevention and fighting sector, non-profit associations involved in prevention and fighting activities, farming and tourist trade’ associations.
